SYLVIANE DEFERNE, PIANO
A deeply sensitive musician whose playing is poetic and nobly expressive, Swiss pianist Sylviane Deferne has won the hearts of her audience well beyond the borders of her country.
Born in Geneva, she studied at the Conservatoire under Louis Hiltbrand and Maria Tipo, gaining a distinction in her Soloist’s diploma for piano and winning several prizes in international competitions. Sylviane Deferne’s career rapidly took off: she performed as a soloist in Europe, America and Asia, playing with orchestras and conductors of great renown, including the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande, the Orchestre Symphonique de Montréal, the National Symphony Orchestra in Washington, and the Philharmonia Orchestra in London under the baton of Charles Dutoit. She is also a chamber music lover, performing with brilliant musical colleagues and touring in Japan, Brazil as well as for the Radio and Television Suisse RTS and the RSI Radiotelevisione Svizzera.
Sylviane Deferne has made numerous recordings for labels such as DECCA, Musica Viva, Riche Lieu and DORON music. Furthermore, she has been sharing her passion with young pianists for many years, offering Masterclasses around the world and teaching the piano at the Haute école de musique de Genève. She is also an invited jury member for prestigious international competitions.
Since 2019, Sylviane Deferne is the artistic director of the concert series "Artémont". Her new album "der Wanderer" will be released in the fall of 2022 on the Aparté label.
